The unintended expatriate blogger behind WillowBendStudio

Hello, I am Lucia

I work as a project manager. A parent. An expatriate living in Madrid, Spain.

Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Began

Moving to Spain wasn't part of our long-term plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.

The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks felt more complicated than they should have.

The Adjustment Period

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We discovered places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.

Why I Built WillowBendStudio

Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.

This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Spain.

What This Website Represents (And What It Does Not)

What this site is:

  • Hands-on insights from life in Spain
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever there is a meaningful change

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our stay in Spain continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Warm regards,

Lucia
